Mental Dump
I don't remember much about the brick house on
9th Street because we moved when I was seven. There are vague memories of Sunday being a special day for the family. I think we had barbeques in the backyard and have memories of taking a drive with all ten of us in the car. Also I remember the flood that must have happened in the mid 50's but not much more. The layout of the house is very dim in my mind; there was a large room in the rear of the house accessed via a hallway. There was a screened porch in the front of the house that led to the living room where we had a TV. We had a neighbor to our immediate left who let me hang out as he was mowing his lawn; he seemed to be a nice man. Lizzie was kind of the leader of a group which must have included the Lowe family from across the street as I can faintly remember running up and down the block to the east sometimes ending up in a someone’s barn. There was a TV show called the Gray Ghost which I must have liked and the above mentioned group would pretend that we were characters in the show. I always wanted to be on the Gray Ghost's side and I remember one day Ray telling me that the Gray Ghost was on the losing side in the war, I was crushed. Bowling was a big deal on Sunday TV, we would all sit in a room that couldn't have been very large and watch Championship Bowling. There was also a music show that Mom was particularly fond of because we always seemed to watch it together. For some reason I recall one brick in the house that must have been broken because I could see the insulation coming out of the brick. Going to Lee Richmond was a jungle for me, the environment there was extremely chaotic, and it seemed I was in constant turmoil in the 1st and 2nd grade.
Significant memories
Tony Sam came from
China, I recall showing him how a light switch worked and also the miracle of the flush toilets. In my adult years I would think how presumptuous it was of me to think that Tony would not know about how use a light switch or a flush toilet. So when we were in
Visalia for Uncle Mun's? funeral I asked Tony if he remembered the day we met and the light switch/toilet incident. He remembered. I then asked if he thought I was an idiot and Tony said no because he had never used a light switch before.
Other memories
I faintly remember cleaning the inside of the
Chinese School with a garden house. it seemed to be a joyous event. What was that about?
Foster freeze was fun.
Going bowling
That is it
What do you all remember?
